As the warm morning sun peaked into the twin's house, Lucas stirred and awoke. Grudgingly getting dressed, he cooked himself some omelets and headed up to Lighter and Fuel's house, taking Boney and his home-made wooden pole for protection. Passing through the village he noted that yet, another structure was being built where the cross roads used to be. “Hello, Mr. Thomas!” Said, Lucas. “Hello there Lucas. You headin' up to say hi to your mother?” Thomas asked. “No, I'm going to play with Fuel. He's going to celebrate my eleventh birthday with me. He and I are best buddies. What are you building?” Asked, Lucas. “We're constructing what Fassad calls a “Train station.” It will allow us to travel to the factory faster than we could have ever imagined. It's going to be completed hopefully sometime this year. Anyway, if your heading up to the foothills, be careful. There's a lot of new creatures lurking around in the forest and their pretty aggressive. Keep Boney with you and don't lose that pole of yours. Is Flint up in the mountains again?” Asked, Thomas. “Yeah, he heads up there almost every day. I've accepted the fact that I'll never see Claus on Earth again, yet he seems to think he'll find him alive and in perfect health some day. He didn't even remember my birthday, but we rarely see each other anyway.” Lucas said. “Well say hi to him next time you see each other. Happy birthday and stay safe!” Thomas said. “Will do! Let's go Boney!” Said, Lucas. Lucas and Boney had traveled the path between Fuel's house so many times that Lucas had developed great strategies for the enemies in between. He used to dodge and hide and carry many healing items when he was younger, but after gaining enough courage, he would fight the many mice that scampered the ground. After gaining experience and toughening his body against all the attacks, he had built for himself a very modest HP level for his age. When approaching the Orianders, he encountered harder enemies which kept him from exploring too far beyond the river near Fuel's house. Fuel had become quite brother like to Lucas and they saw each other almost every day. Like Lucas, Fuel and his father did not buy into the happy box scam. They stayed simple and lived in their rebuilt cabin which was struck by Thunder Tower frequently. Lucas emerged from the woods scathed as always but nothing nut bread couldn't take care of. “I thought you'd never show up! You sleep way to long!” scorned Fuel. “I stay up late, is that a bad thing? Did you see that new building that's going up around the old mine?” Lucas replied. “Yeah, dad said their bringing in some new kind of technology that allows speed faster than 10 horses combined. I heard your grandfather's house got struck by lighting again. How long do you think that shanty can hold together? It's been struck at least 300,000 times already.” Fuel stated. “He's determined to keep from living in the village. He can't stand the happy boxes and would smash one if he had the chance. Lucas replied. We seem to be the only kids that haven’t been altered by those boxes.” Said Fuel. “I guess it has to be in your house and you have to be around it long enough for it to affect you. Personally, I think the videos it displays are stupid. They make no sense. I've only seen bits and pieces when I've been to houses that have the boxes, but I still have a basic understanding of the shows it displays. I play dad's guitar that's been in the family for generations as entertainment. He's showed me how to play it when he's actually around. I've had to teach myself most of the strings and notes.” Lucas said. “I carve a lot of models from the scrap wood dad has around. Here's a new pole for you by the way. I've been working on it for a few weeks and just finished it last night. It should boost your offense by a couple of points... Oh, I just broke the fourth wall didn't I?” Fuel said. “Screw the fourth wall, Itoi designed us to talk this way. Thanks for the pole. It will make getting home a bit easier. Anyway, you wanna head up to the river for a swim? It's going to be a hot one today.” Stated lucas. “Yeah, why not. Let me grab my swim stuff and we can head on up. I made a new slingshot for myself and found a new source of stones, so the monsters shouldn't give us much trouble." Fuel said. The kids spend the day swimming in the river where Claus and Lucas used to play. As the skies begin to darken and the sun begins desending, Lucas and Fuel head back to the cabin.

“Well, I'd better head back. I don't want to be struggling through the forest in the dead of night. Thanks again for the new pole.” Lucas said. “Don't mention it. Say hi to Mr. Flint if you see him tonight.” Said Fuel. “Will do. See you later!” Lucas replied. Lucas begins his descent out of the foothills and navigates through the Sunshine Forest making his usual dip in the hotspring on the way out to recover his health. Back home, Lucas changes into his pajamas and cooks some steak and a potato. He then plays his father's guitar until Flint comes home. "Oh, your still up? You don't have to wait for me you know." said Flint. "I like staying up late anyway. Are you going back up to the mountains tomorrow?" asked Lucas. "If the house doesn't need repair, than yes." Flint replied. "Isn't today May 15th?" Lucas asked. "Yeah, why?" Replied Flint. "Nothing, just wanted to know the date. Hopefully I'll see you tomorrow. Fuel and Thomas said hi. Goodnight." Lucas turns toward his bed. "Lucas, isn't May 15th your birthday?" Flint asked. "Yes dad, thank you for remembering." A small smile crosses Lucas's face and he lies down for the night to dream of his brother and mother.
