Chapter 3

Onward to Podunk

After the talk with his dad, Ninten decided to check the basement. He grasped the doorknob in his hand and pulled. It was locked “Of course its locked, if it wasn’t it would be easy.” Ninten thought. He searched his living room desperately searching for the basement key. Ninten then remembered that his dog, Jake, always liked sparkly things . He left the house and looked around. ‘

The Podunk countryside was beautiful. The flowers bloomed and the sun shone through the clear blue sky. Off in the distance he could see Podunk. The tallest building there was the department store. There were little farms and he could see people hard at work on the farms. He tore his eyes away from the beautiful scenery and saw his dog sleeping in his dog house. Jake was proud Husky with crystal blue eyes.

“Hey Jake do you have the basement key ?” Ninten asked not expecting Jake to respond. He then heard a deep voice in his head

“ So what if I did?” Ninten jumped and looked around and saw Jake looking at him.

“Did you say that?” Ninten asked.

“Yeah” Jake said nonchantly.

“This must be PSI at work.” Ninten thought.

“So PSI allows me to talk with animals”

“Yeah I do have the basement key, do you want it?” Jake asked.

“Yeah can I have it.” He asked.

“Sure” Jake replied.

With the key in hand Ninten headed back into the house and unlocked the door. As he headed down into the basement he noticed that cobwebs were everywhere. It was hardly lit and rats scurried across the floor. Against the wall was a dresser. Inside was a old diary with a torn cover. He opened the first page and saw his great-grandfather’s. He took and was heading back up the stairs and saw a plastic bat from his childhood. Ninten knew he may need a weapon on his journey so he took and left the basement.

When he reached the living room, his mom came up to him and said with tears in her eyes.

“ Ninten, I know you must go on this adventure and I can’t stop you. It hurts a mother’s heart to see her child grow up. I wanted to give you this loaf of bread to take with you. Please remember to call home once in a while.”

“I will mother.” Ninten replied crying as well. And with that Ninten left this house and headed toward Podunk, scared by the danger that laid ahead of him, but happy knowing that he had his family’s support.
