Well, first off, the Rock Candy trick is a way to increase any character's stats to their peaks without a Game Ganie or a Game Shark. A Rock Candy increases Speed, Guts, IQ, Vitality, or Luck by one. If you have a Sugar Packet, though, it will increase the random stat by 2. So, here's the trick. It's best to completely empty a character's Goods either by giving that character's items to the others or by storing them with Ness's Sister. Once empty (except for the 4 equipped items and the Rock Candy), buy as many Sugar Packets that you can hold. Give the Rock Candy to the same person so the item falls to the bottom of the list. Engage in a battle. Once in a battle, simply use the Rock Candy for that person's turn. You can use it on anybody in your team. That person will get +2 to a random stat. After a use, though, you'll notice that the Sugar Packet disappears, but the Rock Candy stays. Keep using the Rock Candy until your Sugar Packets are depleted. Since the Rock Candy never disappears, you can go out and buy more Sugar Packets. Your stats will skyrocket if you use this trick, and it only costs $3 for a Sugar Packet... Now, the strategy. You can use this trick in many ways and places, but here's what I suggest - Using them by Scaraba. Since Scaraba has a Condiment salesman, you can easily battle out by the pyramids and return to the town. The only catch is that your characters must not be too powerful. If the Great Crested Bookas run from you, you're too powerful. You'll have to go somewhere with more powerful enemies. You must get into a battle with a Great Crested Booka. The main reason this is preferred over others is the simple fact that it stinks! Compared to the Desert Skelpions and the UFOs, these are the least threat to your HP, which you need while the party member uses the Rock Candies. The GCB either attacks, lets out a War Cry, or smiles. You must not kill it until you run out of Sugar Packets, too. You'll get the most out of a single battle this way. All you do is have everyone defend while the Rock Candy holder does his/her thing. Kill the Booka when you run out. Simple, right? There's much more to it... The main plan is to get as little Exp. as you can. It may sound weird, but you must. I've found a little trick that leads to absurd HP and PP growth. It depends on one of the stats the Rock Candy increases - Vitality. When a character gains a level, it usually gets 1 or 2 HP/PP. When that character gets 1 Vitality point in a level-up, though, he/she gains somewhere between 7-15 HP/PP (in the 'Sweet' and 'That Rocks' categories). So, if you increase the Vitality as much as you can in a single level, you'll get a LOT of HP/MP, right? Right. Get out a piece of paper and record the increses when you use the Candy (focus on one party member at a time for best results). When that character gets about 20 or so Vitality points, he/she will get roughly 300 HP/PP that level up. Now, if you increase the number, it's obvious that you'll get way more, so try and get as much in as you can. There may be drawbacks, though... I've never tried it, but I'm guessing something may happen when you gain over 999 HP/PP in a single level. My personal max is 583/642, mainly because I was cautious. A character can have up to 9999 HP and PP, but I'm not sure what will happen if it gains too much. If you're looking for over 999 HP/PP, here are some findings I've...err...found. 1)When a character has over 999 HP, and he/she gets hit, the familiar scrolling of the meter does not take place until 999. So, if a character has 1300 HP and gets hit for 149, that character will instantly go to 1151 HP. 2) a)The number bar isn't supposed to go over 999, so some weird sprites are placed on the first box. When a character has 1000-1099, you'll see it as the last 3 digits, but with the first as a blank spot. Ex- 1056 would be seen as 56. b)If it's between 1100-1199, it shows the first box of a disabled PP box. It looks like half an X. So, if you had 1156 HP, you'd see >56. c)There are probably more, but I haven't found them yet. Explore by yourself! I'm just beginning finding this code's max... The only problem that could arise from this is a bit on confusion between numbers like 1056 and 56. They appear the same way, the first box blank, the second 2 read 56. So, if you get confused, your character may seem to be healthy, but he/she's really not. The moral is, keep an eye on a person's HP when it's over 999 or you may get confused! Here's a small extension of the HP and PP label sprites when it gets beyond 999. 1200-1299 - The 'S' in 'SMAAAASH!!' 1300-1399 - An 'A' in 'SMAAAASH!!' 1400-1499 - The '!!' in 'SMAAAASH!!' 1500-1599 - An unknown symbol, looks like +/- 1600-1699 - The 'Y' in 'YOU WON!' 1700-1799 - The 'W' in 'YOU WON!'
