Birth Of The Bee-- Part 1: Escape "Hurry it up guys!" Ness frantically hollered, charging through the muck, goo, and slime of the swamp, whilst simaltaniously fighting the wrath of the pouring rain, "They may as well be sitting on us at this pace!" "Ooo! Help me, Ness!" Paula whined, reaching for him, and Ness stopped dead to take her hand and lead her with a steady gait. "They're catchin' up! C'mon! This way!" Jeff cried, leaping into a huge brushy area of shallow water, and they all held their breaths until the last of strange demonic robots had past. These are the four children destined to save the world. But it was them who was in need of being saved. The world had been plunged into utter chaos, havoc, and constant confusion. The world was ruled by an iron-fisted alien creature known only as "Giygas". The rain continued to beat down on them, as they all reflected about what had happened. Ness was a mere boy from Onett who was chased from his domicial without explanation by strange creatures and robots, even his once ever-loyal mutt, King, had turned against him. Paula was a meek girl from Twoson, using only PSI techniques to defend herself from whatever it was that forced her to flee, leaving her parents and the children she used to have gaurdianship over... to die. Poo was a Prince from a forgein land known as Dalaam. Poo was (quite literally and metaphorically) over-thrown from his mountain-based kingdom, and forced to find shelter with the other renagades. Jeff, the last to join with the others, came from a frigid country, Winters far to the North. Jeff was constantly battling sicknesses because the warm and tropical countries which they now hid in were too hot for him, only the use of PSI had maintained his life. Jeff also is near-sighted and his glasses were shattered in an assault on his father's lab, which had been his only shelter since the entire building and residence of the Snow Wood Boarding School had bee mercilessly slaughtered. He escaped only with the aid of his father's last invention, the Sky Runner, which lead him to the others. Paula gently sobbed and weeped and rubbed the ill Jeff's forehead comfortingly and Poo and Ness kept their weapons on hand and kept their guard up in fear of their being attacked. "Go without me," Jeff moaned in pain, "It'll be the best for us all, guys." "No!" Ness pointed his bat at Jeff, "All of us HAVE to stick together. If we all stay as one group, we'll be safer." Paula gently tugged Ness' sleeve to obtain his attention, and she wordlessly pointed to her shoes. They were, at one point, highheels. So much for that. They had snapped and she looked at him for advice. Ness grunted, being the appointed leader of the group constantly maintained its share of stresses other than that of the enemies. Ness grunted once again when he heard Jeff's stomach growl loudly. "I get the message!!!" Ness sighed, "I'll go get food, you guys wait here for me." Ness silently snuck out among the reeds and plants as he stalked off to obtain whatever happened to come his way. Jeff slowly got up to his feet, but Paula insisted he remained seated as to save his strength. Ness took longer than he had intended to for obtaining dinner, which turned out to be a petit wild hog and a little fruit. When Ness stepped again through the swamp's slush, he looked down and to his great horror, the water had turned red. "Please, please, please let me be wrong about this!" Ness then kicked it into high-gear and took off into the spot where his friends had been hiding. To Ness' dismay, he saw Poo face-down in the water. He was the source of the water's red coloring. "No...!!! PAULA! JEFF! WHERE ARE YOU?!" He yelled and cried out. Some bushes wriggled around as Jeff swam out and stood up and look to Ness, "Paula hid me in the bushes when she heard something, and... she was... taken. Poo... tried to stop them, but they were... armed..." Ness examined Jeff, "You look better..." Jeff nodded and replied, "You look worse. Sit down and pull yourself together, I'll prepare dinner." Ness couldn't eat that night, he just sat there and shook himself to a light slumber, which was abruptly halted by every little noise, and he kept asking himself if he were there when it happened, would it have been different, or was there some greater power insuring he was away? Either way, it didn't really matter anymore. Ness looked up at his eating comrade and said weakly, "Can I have a bite of that?" The next morning Ness stood up from his wet and muddy 'bed', and woke up his friend, and declared, "We have got to return to the remains of your dad's lab. I had a preminition last night that there... we might find some answers." Jeff cleared some water out of his ear and replied, "It'll be a long trip... across the ocean, through the desert... across another ocean... through summers, across ANOTHER ocean, through Eagleland, and across another ocean." Ness nodded, "And let's not forget that Pokey and his little buddies are still constantly on our tail, but I think we led them in the wrong deirection so I think we'll be in the clear for a few days whilst we run through the old relics." The two last members packed their things together, and they began heading North. Ness had actually lied about the whole preminition thing. He just wanted to check the Stone Henge base for Paula, in case she just might be alive. So, the muddy, wet, tired, hungry travelers set off for the thick jungles of whence they had originally came. "It won't take them long to reach the end of the Lost Underworld and come back for us. A matter of days, really," Jeff had sighed, "So we'd best hot-foot it!" Ness nodded. Though Jeff was near blind he was quite adjusted to not having his glasses, so it wasn't terrible. "Come on!" Ness exclaimed as they continued their murky trail, "I get the sense we're almost outta here!" Ness turned out to be quite right. For they then came across the edge of the swamp, to find a tiny boat which they had stashed originally when there was still four of them. Ness and Jeff quickly removed the brush and hopped in. Both of them grabbed oars and paddled as fast as their arms would allow them to go. Finally syncronizing themselves, Ness and Jeff succesfully made a little headway onward to Scaraba. The trip was, and always had been remarkably short despite dramatic climate changes from hot and dry to hot and humid, but this trip, it seemed like hours when in reality it was merely minutes. After the draining hours of rowing, Jeff and Ness hopped on shore of the desert and set off across the scorching desert. In a matter of time, neither of the boys had a single drop of water on him. Ness and Jeff merely talked about how peaceful their lives were until the sudden attacks. It seemed like the monsters and creatures jumped from nothing and came into the world unexplainedly. Then, the boys came across a devistating sight. One they had seen before but the sadness and anger of the scene of all of the Scarabian village destroyed, and their dead spread across the ground as if a bomb had ignited in the middle of their lives, had filled them. "This..." Jeff held back a sob, "Is too much!" Ness' sentiment was different, "Somebody... has to stop this chaos! If only we had known! Somehow..." Ness squeezed his fists hard and punched the soft sand below him and wept. After a matter of time, they got their bearings straight and got going. The quickly encountered a ship that had remained unharmed from the recent invasions. The quickly boarded it and raised the main sail and they were quickly off. "Hey, Ness," Jeff said, Ness looked at his friend's general direction, but gave no real reply, "We'll find Paula. I promise." Ness smiled at this. To Be Continued...
