Chapter 3

Moments later, Ness and all of his friends were in Monotoli’s office. Monotoli wasn’t there. He was taken away because he threatened to kill Ness. Outside of the high office, the chosen four saw the destruction that had spread throughout the city. In the distance, flames could be seen rising from somewhere in Dusty Dunes Desert. While the others looked on in horror, Ness sat down at Monotoli’s enormous desk and picked up the phone. "Who are you calling?" asked Jeff who was suddenly torn away from the sight of destruction.

"I’m calling Nintendo." Ness answered. "I want some answers." He dialed the number that was a mystery to all other citizens of EarthBound including Paula, Jeff, and Poo.

It rang several times before someone answered. Ness thought that they were wondering if they should answer it or not. When they did, it was a machine. "Thank you for calling Nintendo, if you would like to bypass hearing our schedule for new releases, press zero zero now and one of our employees will be with you as soon as they are able to." Some light elevator came on for several minutes. Ness was about to hang up when someone finally answered.

"He…hello?" came a small voice. "H…h…how may I he…help you?" His voice was trembling.

"This is Ness, from EarthBound and I want to know why you guys cancelled the sequel!" Ness shouted into the phone.

"I…I’m ga…gonna send you ta…to the ma…manager." Said the low voice.

This time there was no wait. "Listena, kid." Said a voice with a heavy Italian accent. "Don’ta mess with us or ya gonna wisha you’ll neva been borna. Got it!?" Ness was furious.

"Who is this!?" He demanded.

"Compared to you, kid? I’ma goda!" He said before he slammed the phone. Ness did the same.

"What’s wrong, Ness?" asked Paula. "What did they say?"

"All they said was to not mess with them. It was some guy with an Italian accent. He said compared to me, he was a god!" Ness said as he stormed out of the office.

"Where are you going?" asked Jeff. "What are you going to do?"

"I’m gonna give them a piece of my mind!" Ness exclaimed. He began to run down the hall with great speed and they all knew that he was teleporting.

With a loud crash like a clap of thunder, he was gone. He reappeared a few seconds later in Threed. He was just outside of the thick forests that surrounded the town at the North. As he walked deeper and deeper into the forest, he began to talk to himself, louder and louder. Just before he stopped, he was screaming, "I hate you! Why did you have to do this!!" Then he suddenly stopped. He was in a small clearing with a large tree resting in the middle. All of the leaves were gone despite the fact that all of the other trees had their leaves. The trunk had a large capital "N" painted on it in red. This was the warp tree. It led to the Nintendo headquarters. The tree’s location was known only to a select few. Ness placed his hand on the "N" and said, "Get "N", or get out!" The tree began to glow brightly. Ness thought about how ridiculous that password was. Soon, he couldn’t see anymore. The light from the tree was too bright. It slowly began to fade and when it did, Ness saw the headquarters.

He was standing on a large platform, holding a pole. It had an inscription on it that read, "EarthBound; SNES 6/01/95." All around him were hundreds of other poles; all of them belonged to a different game. Ness headed towards the headquarters. It was quite a long distance from the "parking lot". He saw several strangely dressed people from other games (Video game characters rarely have inter-game relationships).

Once inside, Ness sat down in the lobby and picked the most recent issue of Nintendo Power. The secretary was speaking with a tall guy who was wearing a green tunic and elf hat. He actually looked a lot like an elf. A sword and shield were strapped to his back and a blue ball of light flew around his head in circles. Ness did not know what the ball of light was until he saw that it had wings. It was a fairy, and a very annoying one at that. "Look! Wait! Listen! Wait! Look! Look! Look!" it continued to say these things in its tiny squeak of a voice. The elf guy quickly whipped around and caught the fairy in a glass bottle. He quickly put in a large cork to seal it up. After this spectacle, the secretary handed the elf a blue instrument. The elf blew in it and it let out a very beautiful sound. The elf smiled and put it in his pocket.

"Now don’t break it again." Said the secretary. "It’s a one of a kind ocarina." The elf nodded and walked away. He waved to Ness and then left. Ness approached the secretary. She sighed deeply. "That Link is a hunk." She said.

"Yeah, whatever. I’m Ness and I’m here to ask about the cancellation of the EarthBound sequel." The secretary looked down at Ness.

"Oh, Mr. Ness. We’ve been expecting you. Go down the hall and to your left." Ness nodded and followed her directions. The room was rather small with a large window that took up the entire back wall and a single chair in the middle. He sat down and waited.

It must have been ten minutes that he waited. He was about to leave when he saw something out of the small window on the door to his room. It was a large yellow rodent, with long ears and red circles on its cheeks. Its large black eyes stared straight into Ness’ and then the creature smiled. Ness was confused. He stood up, but it was too late. The creature waved goodbye as the large window opened up and a strong vacuum of air pulled Ness out into the open sky.

The headquarters was just a large base surrounded by ocean and Ness was falling straight for it. He continued to increase speed every second. He wouldn’t drown. He would die instantly upon impact. He closed his eyes and waited. Any second now he would hit. He was only twenty feet away now. He began to fall even faster. Ten feet. Even faster. Five feet. He was going to die.

Suddenly, from out of nowhere, a small golden spacecraft caught Ness by accident. He crashed into it hard, alerting the pilot. The ship began to slow down and headed back for the platform from where it came.

The cockpit of the small golden craft opened and out stepped a tall man in a purple outfit. "I just got this baby fixed!" He screamed. "Who ever did this to the Captain’s flyer is gonna wish they were dead!"

"I already do." Ness said to himself.
