A Very Adonuts Christmas The Door to The Adonuts lab burst open, and a small man hustled in. He stamped his feet in the Snow, grumbling about today's weather. "Why haven't I built a weather changing machine, my boy?" Jeff Adonuts stumbled through the doorway, sweating under the heavy load of suitcases. Even the negative temperatures in the air refused to cool him from his labors. He struggled to respond to his father, but as he did, he dropped the suitcases everywhere, including on his frozen toes. "OWWWWW!" "Oww, my good boy?" Dr. Adonuts said, whirling on his son. "What kind of a response it that? I need ideas!" He said, his mustache quivering jovially. "Now help me unload these suitcases!" Jeff stood in the doorway, frazzled. Ever since his vacation to Saturn valley, his father had been filled with a new vigor that frightened him. Even his very presence succeeded in irking him beyond belief. He trudged up the stairs, his sludgy boots rubbing against the gray linoleum floors. "Where do you want these, dad?" "Hrmm....Right next to the phase distorter 4." Jeff picked up the cases once more, and slowly descended the stairs. Dr. Adonuts looked at him quizzically. "Now why would you walk UPSTAIRS and the walk DOWNSTAIRS, m'boy? just doesn't make Sense." "Because I thought you would want them up in the loft." "I would have, but I just had the most splendid idea!" Jeff widened his eyes, and shuddered. "Not another one!" He thought bitterly. "Why don't you have your little friends, Ness, Poo, and Paula for Christmas Eve dinner?" "WHAT?" The world around Jeff went dark. There was no way he was going to show his friends his embarrassing father anymore then they had already seen. "Shocked, are you? Then you'll be pleased to know I mailed the invitations already! You should get replies any day now!" Jeff fell backwards in his chair. "This can't be happening." * The next morning, Jeff rose bright and early to go construct a robot he was working on. As he ran down the stairs, his father bumped into him. "Jeff, m'boy!" "Uhm.. Hi.. Dad.." "Go check the table in the lab! Your invitations arrived with RSVP's!" Jeff blanched, and ran downstairs. He scooped the letters off the table, and read them with haste. "Well, it looks like Ness and Paula can make it readily enough...what am I going to do?" He slumped up against a chair, his shoulders drooping. Suddenly, He got an idea. An Awful idea. Jeff had a wonderful, awful idea. "I know what I'll do!" He cried out with glee. "I'll find a way to stop Christmas from coming! I'm smart enough!" So he sat at his desk, drawing plans till the wee hours of the night. Around 1 AM, his father creaked open the door. "Son...shouldn't you try to get some sleep right now? In just 3 days your friends will come, and you'll have the best night of your life!" "Not if I can help it," he muttered darkly. * At 6 Am the next morning, Jeff pulled out a blueprint, and opened a scientific log. Chapter 1 December 22 In two days my friends will arrive, and I will be at the mercy of my foolish father. I have constructed a machine to pull forward the days until it is Christmas morning, and This horrible event will have never occurred. I plan to use it this morning. Jeff snapped his log shut, and a cloud of dust shot up into his nose. "Ach--oooo!" He wiped his nose, and ran down the steps as his slippers patted against the floor. Flicking up the light switch, he looked around his father's lab. "Doesn't my father have a calendar in here somewhere? AHA!" He said, as he grabbed his father's Dilbert desk calendar from the table. He placed it on a stool, and he ran up to his room for the final piece. * Jeff entered his room, and snatched the blueprints from the drawer. "Now the core of my operation must be here! Augh!" He looked under his bed, and another cloud of dust sprayed him in the face. He removed a box from under his bed, and ran downstairs again. Jeff grabbed the calendar, and a few plugs from the back of his dads' HONDA. "He won't miss them." He said, silently. As he said this, he lifted the lid from his dusty box, and removed the missing item. "AT LAST!" He raised it high. "The Ultimate time piece - The hour glass from boggle!" He connected the plugs to the glass, and added a power circuit from a nearby lamp. He grabbed the Hourglass in his fist, and shook it 3 times. "Hahah! in a matter of seconds, I will be 3 days older!" As he laughed, a blinding light struck him in the face. He reeled back, and grabbed his head in agony. As he jolted up, he ran for the calendar. "What day is it?" He exclaimed excitedly. "What? It's still the 22nd? But. but!" and suddenly, he looked at the clock. 3 minutes had passed. "I forgot! this is a minute glass! I'd need to shake this 4320 times for the result I want!" He threw his device across the room. "Back to the drawing board! * The Next morning, he awoke in a pile of books on his desk. "YES! My next invention is complete!" He grabbed his notebook, and began to enter in it once more. Chapter 2 December 23 I have constructed a memory device, that will temporarily remove memories from the person it is aimed at. When I use it on my father, he will forget the dinner plans, and I can tell ness and Paula I was sick! It's foolproof! * Downstairs in the lab, he sat down at the work stool. Jeff grabbed an oily rag from the sink, and started to polish an odd-looking ray guy. "Whoa...i sure hope this works... now where do i put it?" As he talked, he spied a video camera tripod in the corner. "Hahah! This will do perfectly! I'll rest the ray gun there, and when my father wakes up, I can nail him with it!" As he studied the angle, he closed his right eye. "Maybe I should move it a bit toward the door," He said, as he walked it over in front of the doorway. As a trickle of sweat rolled down his forehead, he chuckled. "Now I'm ready! --Oomph!" The door slammed into him, knocking the ray gun off its teetering perch, and straight into Jeff. In his final moments, Jeff looked up to see his father with a load of firewood in the doorway. "Thought I'd get up a bit earlier boy, to get some wood! Well, what's this?" He looked on, as Jeff received a sharp blast from the memory ray. Jeff looked up at his father, blinking. "I...don't know." Jeff looked down, and spied his Notebook. "It seems I'm trying to stop a party from occurring...well, I should really get to work!" * Jeff woke up on the final day, grinning from ear to ear. "This machine can't fail! Chapter 3 December 24 Taking advice from my father, I created a giant weather machine that operates from my thermometer. When I turn the dial, the snow level increases! It's perfect! He Grinned. This time, there was no way he could fail. "Now, all I need to do is just tweak this dial a bit more.... THERE!" He cried out in triumph as snow began to rain from the sky. "They can never make it in this blizzard!" He whirled around at a knock on his door. Grumbling, he turned the knob. "WHA?" Ness and Paul ran into the room, hugging him. "Jeff! We really missed ya, pal!" "But how did you get here? it's snowing in sheets!" He said, desperately covering his weather machine "When I saw the snow, I teleported to Twoson, and picked up Paula. We hope you don't mind if we got here a little early, do you?" He sighed, and waved toward some chairs. "Go ahead, sit down..." He was utterly defeated. Even his greatest inventions couldn't stop this, and now his friends were going to see him be embarrassed time and time again as his father continued to bug him. Paula looked at Jeff, and smiled slowly. "Jeff, is somethign wrong?" Jeff blinked, and broke down. "Yes! I didn't want you guys to come!" Ness looked mildly shocked. "Why not? We missed you a lot!" "It's not that!" He sniffed. "It's my dad! He's just so...goofy!" * Meanwhile, Dr. Adonuts was passing Jeff's room as he walked through the loft. Hearing small sniffles, he leaned his ear against the wall. "Goofy, eh? Heh." He chuckled. "Typical teenager. I think I know just what I can do to cheer him up." He said, smiling. * As Jeff continued to wipe his tears away, his father walked into the room. Jeff leaped straight out of his chair as he looked at his dad. "Wha?" "Jeff, I need to leave now. I have a science convention I forgot to tell you about. I'm sorry to abandon you like this.. do you mind terribly?" Jeff perked up, and his mind raced. This was his way out! Then it hit him. His father didn't have a Science convention! His calendar was blank for today! He was just...trying to make him happy. Jeff smiled slyly. "Yeah, I would mind. I wanted to spend Christmas with you too dad." Dr. Adonuts smiled, and he walked into the room. Jeff hugged him around his waist, and they both smiled. "Merry Christmas, Son."
