Giygas's Spawn

Worlds Apart

Part 11

Ness ran across the clearing and lifted Paula's head. He grabbed her hand and tried to awaken her.

"Paula? Paula, wake up..." he pleaded. Paula was showing no signs of consciousness.

He picked her up and set her behind one of the trees. Ness flinched as he heard the horrible screech of steel, and looked over in time to see Poo nearly rip the leg off of the Spider Mech.

Jeff fired a shot from another of his weapons, a double barreled Gaia beam. A small, white ball of energy flew at the Spider Mech, but seemed to have little effect. Jeff looked in amazement at Poo, whose muscles were tense, and his fists clenched.

Poo reached for his scabbard and pulled out his sword, one he had obtained from the Stonehenge Base, only a mile or two away. He began beating the glass dome of Pokey's machine with the weapon, chipping the glass into small shards.

Pokey nearly went into a panic. He looked at the control panel above his head and remembered his last resort. He pushed a button labeled "FS". He was startled by a bright flash as Jeff fired a shot from his strange looking gun.

"Come on, you pansy. You can't get through my reinforced glass!" Pokey taunted. "Besides, you're not playing fair, so its time to level the playing field!" The onboard computer beeped, and Pokey issued a voice command. "Final Sequence! Code: LR2010. Initiate!"

Suddenly, everything froze. Jeff, Poo, and Ness realized that they could no longer move. Pokey opened the hatch of the Spider Mech and stepped out. The clearing where they were fighting slowly melted away, and they all became surrounded by nothing but blackness. A place quite similar to where they fought Giygas. Pokey lifted his hands, laughed, and disappeared into the darkness.

Ness swung his bat at the darkness, but nothing happened. He could hear Pokey's incredulous laugh.

"Haha...Trying to fight something you can't even see...You stand no chance."

Poo and Jeff both attacked, but they could neither see nor sense where Pokey was. It was blackness all around. It was as if they were floating in space. They could feel something beneath their feet, but there was no ground anywhere.

Ness told Jeff and Poo to stand back to back with him. They had to be prepared for an attack from any side. Suddenly, they all felt an incredible pressure inside them.

"Aaaaagh...It feels like I'm going to explode..." Jeff gritted his teeth as he talked. He could feel his strength draining as he fought against the unseen force.

"My lungs feel as if they're going to burst...Be strong..." Poo said. Even he, the strongest of the group, couldn't well withstand the immense pressure.

Ness became dizzy. He knew he had to do something. He breathed deeply and concentrated. He closed his eyes and forgot about the pain, thinking about his PSI skills. Something inside his mind clicked. Ness narrowed his brow, opened his eyes, and threw his fists out in front of him, as if in a trance. Incredible rays of color penetrated the darkness.

Poo and Jeff felt the pressure go away, and they fell to their knees, gasping for breath. Jeff looked up and saw the amazing array of colors. Poo, still clenching his chest, mumbled to himself. "PSI...PSI Exa. I thought it was only a myth."

Pokey's screams were heard by all. They soon faded into silence. Once Ness's PSI Exa attack was finished, a bright light filled the area. Ness, Jeff, and Poo were all struck down.

Poo opened his eyes slowly. As things slowly came into focus, he realized he was back in the clearing. Back in Winters. Back in his own world. Paula and Ness helped him up.

"Ness...You realized it. You realized the power of Exa." said Poo.

"What? Exa?"

"Yes. You remember that incredible PSI spell you cast, don't you?"

"Hmmm...I remember trying to concentrate, and then a bright flash. Did I do something?" Ness was totally perplexed. He had just awoken after the hardest battle of his life, and was extremely tired.

"Yes. My master told me of this PSI power, named Exa. Its power is unsurpassed by anything. As legend has it, my ancestors tried to harness the power of Exa. But even they, the masters of PSI, couldn't grasp its complexities."

Ness sighed. It was a sigh of relief, something he hadn't done in a long time. "Lets go guys. The threat is gone, for now."

Ness teleported everyone back to Onett, where they recounted their incredible story to Ness's mother. Ness said goodbye to everyone as they went their separate ways home.

Ness sat on his front porch, watching construction crews fill in the huge crater that the spawn had created that first day. As he sat, he noticed a figure approaching. Upon closer examination, he realized that it was Frank Fly, running towards him.

"Ness...*pant*...Look..."

Ness looked at the object in Frank's hands. It was a strange metallic orb. Turning the orb around, he realized that he was holding the Apple of Enlightenment.

"This...This is the--"

A bright flash emitted from the orb.

Ness saw Giygas. Growing, expanding. He was sucking energy from something...Something like a small planet.

Another flash. Ness dropped the orb and fell to his knees.

The End...?
