Giygas's Spawn

Hoax

Part 9

Joseph, an avid Tessie-Watcher, was reading a book when he heard a loud sound not far from his tent. He decided to go investigate. As he peered around a large pine tree, he saw a boy lying on the ground. The boy sat up and rubbed his head. Joseph was about to go over and help him up when, all of a sudden, a huge object came hurtling out of the sky. Joseph, being known for his bravery, began dashing after the boy to push him out of the way before whatever it was landed on him.

Ness looked up and had a sinking in his stomach as he watched the body of the monster coming straight for him. Ness closed his eyes and hoped that the impact of the landing would kill the monster, even though Ness would go with it. He knew, judging from how fast the monster was falling from the sky, that there was little more than a few seconds before the beast landed, crushing him. He knew that he wouldn’t make it, but scrambled to his feet in one last, desperate attempt to escape.

In the seconds that followed, Ness was hit hard in the side. He stumbled straight into a tree. Before blacking out, he saw a man wearing a safari-type hat and some thick layers of clothing stumble to the ground in front of him. Ness’s eyes rolled into the back of his head and he blacked out just before the spawn smashed into the ground.

Joseph heard a sickening crunch as the humongous object hit the ground. It sounded like someone was cracking an egg. Then, he looked back and saw a spiky, frost covered beast behind him. He was terrified. It wasn’t until then, after the adrenaline rush, that he came to the horrible realization: one of the spikes on this beast’s arm had gone clean through his leg. He screamed in agony and tried to move. The spike had penetrated straight through his leg and into the cold ground, pinning him hopelessly. A sharp pain spread through his whole body, like a lightning bolt, bringing tears to his eyes.

Joseph screamed, and waited for what seemed like an eternity until his friend, John, came dashing from behind one of the trees. John took one look at what had happened, and with a quizzical and terrified look, began pulling up on the arm of the beast, trying to free John. Joseph fainted, partly from loss of blood. John looked over and saw a boy in a red hat open his eyes.

Ness looked and knew what had happened instantly: one of the Tessie Watchers had pushed him out of the way. He then looked in front of him and saw the man, pinned to the ground by one of the spikes. Ness jumped to his feet and began helping John lift the arm.

When they had gotten the arm of the spawn up high enough, Ness told the other Tessie Watcher to pull the man out and run as far away as possible. He also told him to warn everyone else in the area. John did as he was told, hoping that he was strong enough to carry Joseph back to camp and warn everyone else.

After John ran off, with Joseph slung over his shoulder, Ness looked at the spawn. The impact with the ground had shattered nearly all of its exoskeleton. Some of the frozen pieces fell to the ground, exposing muscle and other innards underneath. He almost got sick, and then saw something strange. The beast shuddered, and began moving. The strange thing was, the beast itself was not moving. It was as if something inside it were moving, trying to get out. Ness stared in awe as the familiar Spider Mech emerged from inside the monster. And inside it sat Pokey.

"Geez, Ness, what did you expect?" Ness heard Pokey speak, with a metallic tone. He must be talking through a speaker.

"So its not..." Ness mumbled, trailing off. The anger inside him was building up.

"Giygas? Heh heh heh...you’re so naive. Giygas is long gone. Yes, yes, I said it before and I’ll say it again, he was an almighty idiot. He was so obsessed with taking over this pitiful planet, he never realized how weak he had become. Giygas didn’t just get stronger automatically; he had to have an energy source. You slowly destroyed that energy source as you claimed the ‘Sanctuaries’. But any idiot could have done that."

"Then what is all this? This monster? Why are you doing this?"

"Heh heh heh...Remember that big brain-type thing you saw when we first encountered Giygas? It was the Devil’s Machine. See this big, scary monster? Devil’s Machine."

Pokey pushed a button inside his glass-topped Spider Mech. The monster dematerialized, vanishing into thin air.

"Remember the ‘Apple of Enlightenment’? Its a device that could predict the future. Guess what."

Pokey held up a strange, metallic orb. Suddenly, everything became blurry. Ness became dizzy. He blinked, hoping he was just tired. When his eyes opened, he could see himself battling Pokey. Ness realized the ‘Apple of Enlightenment’ was projecting the future into his mind. Ness watched as the image became fuzzy, and something appeared to explode. Ness then saw a single image, of him lying on the ground, unconscious or dead. Ness hoped it wasn’t the latter. With a flash of light, he was zapped back to reality.

Pokey looked straight at him. "Lets get it on, spanky."
