MoonBound: Part 16

But with even the faintest flicker of life, hope still remains.

Picky woke up some time later. He thought that he couldn't have been unconcious for too long, but there was no way for him to be sure. He turned his head and saw the same god-forsaken blob, still gliding around. It began to glide over towards Ness. Picky assumed that it was trying to absorb Ness again, and he knew that he had to do something.

"Just you and me now." Picky thought to himself. He gathered his confidence and began moving towards the living blob. He lifted his hand and fired PK Beam alpha at it. It formed a hole that shortly closed in, but it accomplished what Picky wanted it to. It got the blobs attention. It turned around and faced Picky. As it began to glide slowly towards Picky, it seemed to roll its round, googly eyes. Picky cracked a smile.

"It's now or never." Picky said as he prepared himself to attack. He raised both of his arms, and used PK Beam Beta. Two large yellow beams flew from Picky's hands and connected with the blob's eyes. The eyes were destryoed in a big, gooey explosion. The blob seemed to ripple, and make a low gurgling sound, but soon after, two new eyes began to form where the other ones had been.

"I bet that one hurt ya." Picky said, still smiling. "Now to find out how to kill you." He thought. About then, the blob got angry and began rapidly glinding towards Picky. When it entered striking range, a large dent, somewhat resmbling a mouth opened up in the middle of its slimy body.

"So you want to eat me, do ya." Picky said. He then proceeded to shoot PK Beam Beta into the mouth. A big hole opened, and Picky quickly jumped through right as the blob was about to strike. It lunged toward the ground where Picky had previously been standing.

"You missed." Picky said, smirking. he fired PK Beam Beta at the vulnerable blob's back. The beams flattened the blob onto the ground. Picky then closed his eyes, and lifted his arms into the air. Picky psycically lifeted the blob off the ground, and formed it into a large ball of goo. He lowered his arms, and opened his eyes.

"YOU HURT ME, AND MY FRIENDS!" He screamed as he slammed the goop ball into the wall left of him.

"YOU TRIED TO DENY ME OF MY CHANCE TO SAVE THE WORLD." He yelled as he slammed it onto the wall right of him.

"AND THAT IS WHY." He continued as the goop ball crashed back into the left wall.

"I MUST DESTROY EVERY MOLECULE OF YOU!" He screamed as he slammed the slimy ball into the wall directly in front of him.

"PK BEAM GAMMA!" he yelled as two enormous spiraling beams flew from his hands. When the beams connected with the wall, not only was the blob desintigrated, but a large, smoking hole was left gaping in the side of the small rock room. But this sanctuary was different. No bright light emitted from Picky. No immense force came from the middle of the room. Picky simply fell unconcious to the floor.

Pippi woke up shortly after.

"What happened? Where am I?" She asked herself. She then remembered. "Where is that monster!?" She thought, getting up quickly. It was nowhere in sight. She looked around. All of her friends were unconcious around the solid rock room. Picky was laying dormant right in the middle of the room. "Man what's going on." She thougnt as she walked over to Paula, opened Paula's purse, sifted through it, and finally found a Cup of Lifenoodles. She took the noodles over to where Ness was laying. She poured the warm, tender noodles into Ness's mouth, hoping he would know what to do.

"What's going on?" Ness said as he slowly got up to his feet.

"Well, the monster is gone, but Picky is down too. If he defeated the monster, shouldn't he have absorbed the energy of this sanctuary, and be all wild and excited?"

"Not this one. And that can only mean one thing." Ness said.

"Well, what does it mean!?" Pippi asked in an urgent tone.

"It means that this was the last sanctuary. And he has now taken a little trip into his own mind."

"And what the heck is he doing in his own mind!?" Pippi yelled.

"Wow, you sure are worried about Picky's well bieng." Ness said. "It's like you actually care about him or something." He said, smiling. Pippi blushed.

"Just answer the question." She said.

"Well, to become truly powerful, he must defeat the evil inside his own self."

"I see." Pippi said. Well, I guess we should revive the rest of our friends." Pippi said as she took more Cups of Lifenoodles from Paula's purse.

Picky woke up in a warm, comfortable bed. He opened his eyes, and thought he was dreaming. He was in a small room, with bright pink walls, and a grassy floor. Strangest of all, he was in his blue, woolen pajamas with his fuzzy bunny slippers on. He looked around, and saw a strange figure standing in the corner.

"Excuse me sir, but who are you, and where am I?" Picky asked. The strange being turned around. Picky was shocked at its appearance. It seemed to have a body of a human, but it has the head of a wolf, and one large horn in the middle of its forehead.

"Allow me to introdue myself, if that's nessecary." It said. "My name is Dirk, your imaginary friend when you were a child."

"I remember you." Picky said, holding his head down. "You were the one that I always dreamed would protect me when my father went into his alcoholic rages."

"That's me." Dirk said. "But now it seems you are much too powerful to need my assistance."

"Yea, right, but you still didn't answer my other question." Picky said. "Where am I?"

"You are in Mysticant. The world created by your own mind. Here you shall encounter many things that you have come in contact with throughout your life. Things you never imagined you would see again. Things that have never before had physical form. And things that will terrify you beyond belief."

"Well, that doesn't sound good." Picky said. "What will I be doing here in Mysticant?"

"That you must find out for yourself." Dirk said as a door appeard on one wall of the room. Picky walked through.

"What the heck have I been smokin!?" Picky exclaimed as he looked at his surroundings. There were numerous buildings of various bright colors scattered on the yellowish grass. He saw beings of all shapes, sizes, and races all living together in harmony. In the distance he saw a vast purple sea with a snaking path running across the top of it. The land seemed to be bordered on all sides by strange peach colored clouds. After the initial surprise ended, he began exploring.

"I guess this is that big surprise Ness was talking about." Picky said. "But man is it great to be out of that space suit!." He added. He walked over towards a nearby building that looked exactly like his house, except for the wacky colors. He stepped inside. He immediately heard his father's loud voice screaming. The environment immeditely changed to shades of back and dark purple. He Picky covered his ears and fell to the ground.

"I thought I wouldn't have to go through this again!" Picky said, near tears. "Why make me relive these horrible experiences!?" He screamed. He then remembered what Dirk told him. "Dirk was right. I'm too powerful to let this scare me." Picky thought. He climbed to his feet, and felt corageous. The room immedately changed to red and orange colors. He walked up to the door of his room, and opened it. He saw his drunken father screaming at a younger version of his self. He didn't feel afraid. Suddenly, his father stopped yelling, and disappeared. Picky's younger version lifted his head, smiling.

"Thank you." Picky's younger version said before disappearing in the same way his father had. Suddenly, the colors of the environment changed back to the cheery colors that they were originally. Picky smiled, and walked back outside.

"That's one big, fat monkey off my back!" Picky said, feeling as is if he had just been relieved of a huge burden. He began looking around for another place to venture into. He looked off in the direction of the sea, and saw another building. He began walking over the soft, yellow grass towards it. The building was colored the same as all of the others. It wasn't very big, and Picky wondered how anything would have any room to live in it. He walked in. A strange looking being was sitting behind a small green, plastic-looking desk in the corner. It had the head of a bird, and the body of a monkey. Picky was perplexed.

"Why so surprised?" The being said in a high chirping voice. "You created me. If you don't remember, I was the main character in your comic book. The one you made in the first grade."

Picky thought for a moment. "Paulie!? Is that you Paulie!?" Picky asked.

"You got it." Paulie said.

"And what is your function in this strange world that I supposedly created?" Picky asked.

"I run the shop. We sell one item. Magic Yogurt."

"I guess I'll take one." Picky said. Suddenly, a small bright red yogurt container appeared on Paulie's small desk. Picky pulled out his wallet.

"Don't worry about it." Paulie said. "I can't charge you for what you created."

"Right." Picky said as he put his wallet back into his back pocket. He took the yogurt container and walked out the door.

"Where did I come up with that stuff?" Picky thought, shaking his head. He looked farther out, past the shop. He saw a vast plain. The winding path seemed to start at the end of it. There were various people from Picky's past, and present doing various things in the plain. The first group of people he saw was his family. They all had their backs turned to Picky. Suddenly, all it once it seemed, they all turned around. They were all smiling. But these were not happy smiles. These were evil, menacing grins. A chill went down Picky's spine. The world around him suddenly transformed from a cheery, happy atmosphere into a spooky dark place of dark purple and blue. Picky turned his head and ran. He ran straight towards the middle of the meadow, until he met with some familiar faces. The faces belonged to his best friends, Ness, Poo, Jeff, Pippi, and Paula. Picky walked up to Ness, but before he could open his mouth, Ness spoke.

"You've come a long way, my friend." Ness said. Suddenly the colors turned from dark and dreary into bright green and orange. Picky then walked up to Poo.

"Picky, the world's fate lies in your hands." Poo said. The colors then changed into serious black, grey, and white colors.

"Man, Poo needs to loosen up." Picky thought. He walked up to Pippi next.

"There's been something I've been meaning to tell you..." Pippi said. Once again the environmental colors changed. It seemed this time like it was Spring. The grass was actually green, and the sky actually blue. It seemed as if a warm breeze passed through the land.

"I wonder what she could possibly have to say to me." Picky thought. Jeff was next in the line.

"Your powers have greatly increased. I know you can overcome this evil." Jeff said. The colors changed to beautiful shdes of red and orange.

"These color changes are starting to hurt my eyes..." Picky said. Paula was last in line.

"Picky. You are our only hope." She said. The environment then finally changed back into the original strange colors.

"That sounds like a line from some old science fiction movie." Picky thought. He then hit the final stretch, heading towards the long snaking path. He disregarded the multitude of people, and ran towards the path. "I sure hope this is where I'm supposed to be going." He said as he reached the begining of the path and began walking along it.
