MoonBound: Part 15

"I knew we weren't taking this seriously enough. We just didn't know how costly our laziness would be." Jeff thought as he sat down on the dusty ground, trying to formulate a plan. The rest of the party rested in similar positions, all turned towards the the enemy encampment, watching as Starmen, mooks, and every other enemy unit continued organizing, and filing into giant ships. Jeff noticed that all of the living units were wearing space suits identical to those that everyone else in the party, excluding him, was wearing. He lifted his head.

"I think I have an idea." He said. Everyone looked up at him. "I think that we can sneak along the outside of them. You five look like them with those suits on, so you will move in a line, blocking me from sight on the outside. It's a long shot, and if they see me, its all over. But we have to try." He said.

"Fine then. Let's get a move on." Picky said, standing up. They formed a line, with Ness in front, and Picky behind him. Paula and Pippi came next, with Poo in the rear. Jeff aligned his self even with Ness, and they began slowly making their way along the right side of the enemy base. Eventually, they came even with the first horde of enemies. It was a large group of Starmen waiting to board one of the war ships. A few turned around, and scanned the mysterious small group of beings moving beside them. Their visual sensors, of course, only saw allied suits, so all of them eventually turned back around.

"Okay, first obstacle dodged." Jeff said, as he sighed with relief. But they hadn't escaped yet. Just ahead of them was another group of enemies. They were Ghosts of Starmen. "Here we go again." Jeff thought.

They reached the first row of Ghost of Starmen. None even turned around. They began to think that this would be easier than they thought. They passed unnoticed until they reached the second to last row of Ghost of Starmen. One turned around. The party froze.

"Its okay." Ness whispered. "It can't see Jeff." Little did he know, Ghosts of Starmen had enhanced visual censors, and could see inside their suits. It saw the human bodies and knew that these intruders must be destroyed.

"Oh crap!" Ness yelled as a lone Ghost of Starman teleported right in front of him. He immediately bashed it into the ground, and Jeff finished it off with a shot form his Gaia Beam. But it wasn't over yet. A high pitched radio wave emitted from the defeated Starman. Jeff knew what this meant.

"Run!" He yelled. "It's calling for help!" Everyone turned towards the large horde of Ghosts of Starmen.

"Uh Oh!" Picky said as he saw the Ghosts of Starmen turn and face him, and his friends. "Let's get out of here!" He yelled. They began hopping across the lunar terrain as fast as they possibly could. So, what was a carefully laid out plan of escape had now turned into chaos. Luckily, they were a bit faster than their pursuers, and began to put distace between them and the Starmen.

"Well, at least we're going the way we wanted to." Pippi said, trying to look on the bright side.

"Yea, and we're making record time!" Paula added.

"Maybe this little bit of motivation can work in our favor." Picky said.

"I highly doubt that." Jeff said.

A couple hours later, the party began to get tired, and everyone agreed to stop and take a rest. They all stood, hands on their knees, trying to catch their breath. The Ghosts of Starmen were far off in the distance, and wouldn't catch up for quite some time.

"Hey, look over there!" Pippi said, pointing back towards the way that they had come from. "Some of the Space ships are taking off!" She said, as she watched four enormous flying saucers zoom off towards the earth.

"Well, at least the whole enemy army isn't coming after us." Jeff said. "But this certainly isn't good news for the earth." A short silence followed. "Well, guys, I never before have believed in luck, but at this point, I don't know what else to belive in." He said.

"Hey, this looks like the place where I found that Starman badge." Picky said.

"Yea, it does. That means we're on the right track." Jeff replied.

"Hey guys, those Ghosts of Starmen are starting to get closer. I think we should start moving again." Paula said.

"Alright then." Picky replied. So they continued hopping off in the same direction that they had previously been goin in, putting more and more distance between them and the Ghosts of Starmen. The group felt that they were only running from the inevitable, and not accomplishing anything. But they kept going, afraid to confront the alien host. Two long, uneventful hours later, they began to fatigue again. Ness, who was in front halted everyone, and sat down in the dust, facing their oncoming foes. The Ghosts of Starmen were now almost out of sight, and our heroes were in no danger.

"Man this is frustrating!" Jeff exclaimed. If we don't get this done really soon, then we're going to be too late! If we had only taken this seriously when we still had the time." He said.

"What's past is past, and cannot be fixed." Poo said. "But keep faith, my friends. For if we have no faith, we have nothing."

"I guess you're right." Jeff replied. He looked around. "Guys, where's Pippi?" He asked.

"I don't know. She was here when we stopped." Ness said. He turned around, looking for her. "There she is! Leaning on that rock over there!" He said.

The rest of the party turned around. About twenty feet away, Pippi was leaning on a large moonrock, appearing lost in thought. They hopped over to her.

"Hey Pippi, we thought we had lost you for a second." Ness said to her.

"No I was just thinking." Pippi replied.

"About what?" Ness asked.

"About our chances of completing this. First of all,we have no idea how many of these sanctuaries we have left, and then we're being hunted down by powerful enemy units, while the world faces destruction."

"Sure I guess that's one way to look at it..." Ness said. "But I don't think that we have been brought together, and come this far just to fail. We'll find a way." Ness said. Soon after, Picky called them.

"Hey, guys, come to the other side of this rock, and see what I found!" He said. Everyone hopped to the other side, where Picky was waiting. He pointed towards the ground. There was a small circular hole, about two feet high, and wide in the side of the large rock.

"Well, there's only one reason why you would have been drawn to it." Jeff said.

"Yea, I was thinking the same thing." Picky said. "I'll go in first." He crawled inside, and everyone else followed. The inside was hollow, and quite large, although no where near as large as the boulder that they had found the previous sanctuary at. The ceiling was two stories high at most, and the room was approximately ten yards wide. Sure enough, right in the middle of the room was a small sparkling light.

"Fourth time's a charm." Picky said as he walked up to it. "It is I, Picky, the chosen one." He said confidently. A bright flash lit up the small room,a nd Picky was knocked back against the wall. The flash dimmed, revealing what had knocked Picky back. It was a large translucent green blob, with large circular eyes. It didn't look hostile in the least.

Picky groaned and climbed to his feet. "It looks like lime Jello." He said.

"Yea, and it doesn't look threatening at all." Ness said.

"We'll see if I can make quick work of this thing." Poo said. He drew his sword, charged the blob, and slashed horizontally. The top part of the blob was sliced off and fell to the ground.

"Hey nice job, Poo!" Picky said.

"No way it was that easy." Pippi said, and she was right. The remaining bottom part of the blob glided across the ground to the part that Poo sliced off. It simply fused back with the top part, making it whole again.

Paula then mustered up as much bravery as she could and attacked. She whacked the side of the blob monster with her frying pan. The monster was not hurt, and didn't even seem to notice it had been hit. Paula hit it again, but this time her frying pan got stuck on the side of the blob, and the blob began to suck it into its body! Paula pulled as hard as she could, but to no avail. Eventually the whole pan had been sucked in, and sat suspended inside of the green gelatin like monster.

"That was my best frying pan!" Paula yelled. "That thing won't get away with this!"

"No it wont Ness said as he whacked the blob in the eye. The eye was knocked back into the middle of its body, but then just came back and resurfaced at the top again. Ness's bat began to get pulled in. Ness's bat was his most prized possesion, and he wouldn't let it go. After the bat was entirely absorbed, Ness's hand began to go under.

"Ness, let the bat go!" Paula shrieked.

"Its a bit too late for that!" Ness said, his whole arm now gone. Soon his whole body had been sucked into the large gelatinous monster.

"No!" Paula yelled, but it was too late. Ness was suspended inside the green blob, still grasping his bat. Paula started to run towards him, but Poo held her back.

"Calm down guys. This thing doesn't seem to have any attacks. It just relies on us getting too excited. Jeff said. But he spoke too soon. As soon as he finished saying that, the monster flung two large mini-blobs from its body. One hit Jeff in the back of the head, knocking him against the wall, and then to the ground. The other one hit Paula's side. She was also knocked unconcious into the wall. Only Pippi, Picky, and Poo remained.

"I think we'll have to hit this guy with long range attacks." Pippi said.

"That I can do." Poo said. He closed his eyes, lifted up his arms, and used Starstorm Omega on the blob. Hundreds of stars collided with the blob, and began to bore into its body. The oozy substace bended back, and it seemed for a second that the stars would break through, but it was not to be. Instead, the stars were flung right back at Poo as if thay had been fired from a slingshot. They connected with Poo, and felled the corageous warrior.

"Oh great, just us left." Picky said.

"Let me see what I can do." Pippi replied. She began firing her Bionic Slingshot at the monster. The small projectiles each made small holes in its body, but the holes immediately closed over. "Okay, I guess that won't work." Pippi said. She thought for a moment, and reached into her pack. She pulled out a Multi Bottle Rocket. "Only one more of these after this." She thought. She stuck it in the ground, and lit the fuse. It zoomed at the blob, and connected. Upon impact, it exploded, blasting the monster into hundreds of slimy fragments, freeing Ness, his bat, and Puala's frying pan.

"Hey nice shot." Picky said. But before Pippi could reply, a small blob fragment that had landed on her face began moving down her body towards the ground. Every fragment around the room began moving, and converged in the middle, making the blob monster whole again. Picky groaned.

"There isn't any way we can beat this guy!" He said. "Maybe we just weren't meant to win." He said as he sat on the ground feeling defeated.

"Hey, don't talk like that!" Pippi said to him. "We'll find a way to beat this guy!" About then, the blob flung a large hung of its body at Picky. Only Pippi saw it coming. "Watch out Picky!" She yelled as she pushed Picky out of the way. The blob hit her instead, knocking her into the ground.

"Man I'm such a loser!" Picky yelled. "I've got girls saving me now!" He said. "I can't beat this guy alone." He thought. He began running at the large blob in desperation. But before he could get very far, a large hunk of oozy slime engulfed his face.

And just like that, the entire human race was doomed forever.
