Chapter Two – The Plan

Lucky, Jeff, and Lorien all sat in Snow Wood Boarding School, contemplating their next move.  “Jeff, did you really give Pokey the Phase Distorter IV?” Lucky asked.

“Yes, he already can traverse the barriers of time…  I don’t see how it can hurt us at all.”  Jeff’s explanation seemed to calm the group.  “Although, we could use something that can track where he is…” Jeff stood and tinkered with the computer at his desk for a moment.  “Ha!  It’s active!”

Jeff turned the computer screen to face Lucky and Lorien.  “What is it?” Lorien asked.

“This is a map of time.  It shows where the Phase Distorter IV is at any given time.  I wasn’t sure if it was functional, but apparently it works fine!”

“But this says Pokey is still in our time period…” Lucky said.

“Yes, but now we have a general location.  He’s gone to the Fire Springs!”

“That’s all the way in the Lost Underworld.  What would he want to do there?” Lorien thought out loud.  Once again the group was stumped.

“Let’s call Ness, Paula, and Poo,” Jeff suggested.  Within minutes the three friends were there.  Ness, Paula, Jeff, and Poo had kept in contact over the ten years since their adventure, but hadn’t seen each other in a long time.  The reunion was joyous.  Lucky and Lorien watched as the four friends exchanged hugs and amazed stares.

Ness, after returning home and making sure his sister and mother were doing well, went off to college.  Ness is still working hard to get a degree in the History of PSI.  His main motivation was to learn of how PSI came about, and why he has specialized skills.

Paula became a kindergarten teacher, remaining in her hometown of Twoson.  Everyone knows her there, and she has slowly become a neighborhood icon.  When Paula left that morning, people became worried and quickly began to search for her location.

Poo continued his studies in Dallam, and even branched out, trying to find a new location to teach the ideas of his master.  Deep in the woods one day, Poo stumbled across Tausig, a small community of nomadic ninjas, powerful warriors that time forgot.  The strange community taught him many powerful tools to use when fighting.

Jeff got everyone’s attention.  “Excuse me, everyone.  I know how happy we are to be back together, but we have a problem.”  Jeff quickly introduced Lorien and Lucky.  Everyone already knew Lucky, but meeting Lorien was a new experience.

“Lorien, you have to tell me about what it was like growing up in Deep Darkness!” Paula kept saying.  Lorien seemed to be fascinated with the uproar his way of life seemed to be causing.

“We must find Pokey!  The last time we could locate him, he had journeyed to Fire Springs.  We don’t know just yet why he’s there, but we do have some idea of what he is trying to accomplish.”  Jeff explained the idea of EagleLand’s implosion, the idea of Giygas returning, and Pokey wanting to rule over other worlds in the universe.

“So, we know where he is, but not why he’s there?” Ness asked.

Jeff looked at the screen.  “Actually, we don’t know where he is.  I think he just made the jump into another time, it will take a moment to show up.”  Paula shook her head.

“He just disappears whenever he wants.  He’s like some kind of popular Japanese sequel or something…” The group agreed.  Lorien looked around.

“Why don’t we return to Bane?  My family might be able to help us some, and I have a feeling he might not want me around anymore, now that I know about his plans.”  Lorien was scared for his family, knowing that Pokey’s power has no bounds.

“Lorien, you, Lucky, and Ness head back to Bane.  Poo, Paula and I will work on finding some way to stop Pokey.”  The groups bid farewell and left.

Lorien’s arrival home was not as pleasing as he had hoped.  The small town of Bane lay in ruins.  In the middle of it all was Pokey.  “Hey Lorien, what’s up?  Just figured I’d stop by and see if you could help me out like Lucky did.  But you weren’t home!  I guess I’ll just have to kill you here myself!”

Ness stepped out into the open.  “Pokey!  What are you doing?”  Pokey’s eyes grew wide.

“Ness, you finally came!  I was hoping the rest of your group would be here to see my… latest invention.  I guess you’re just going to have to be the only one of the four heroes’ around.  I’m so sorry!”  Pokey pulled out a small gun.  It began to glow in his hand, a soft white light flowing around them.

“What is that?” Ness cried out.

“This,” Pokey said with pride, “Is the Phase Destroyer.  Using its power I can destroy and entire time period!  By traveling back in time, I can destroy the exact moment when you destroyed Giygas, and the world will be ours!”

Lucky and Lorien were both in shock.  Ness stood ready to fight.  “Pokey, you’re evil.  Why would you want to do that?  Jeff said that if you bring Giygas back, the power brought in to EagleLand, with the power already in it, would cause an implosion!

Pokey laughed.  “Well then I guess the only thing to do is to drain your precious EagleLand’s power before I go.”  Pokey gazed into the sky and disappeared.  Ness fell to his knees.

“He has a means of instant transportation around the world, as well as through time.  He can destroy and entire time period…  And now he’s going to drain the energy of EagleLand through the sanctuaries!  If we allow any of this to happen, Giygas will come back and nothing will ever be the same.”

The group sat in silence, wondering where to go from there.

Back at the lab, Ness reported to Jeff what had just happened.  “We have no clue where he’s headed or anything!” Ness cried out.

“Perhaps I can help,” Poo said, speaking for the first time.  “We can return to Tausig and train there.  One of my friends, Duvet, is a powerful warrior.  His help will surely guide us in the right direction!”

Jeff faced the group.  “Poo, I think the best plan for right now is to try to find out what Pokey is doing.  Why was he at Fire Srpings?”

“Fire Springs is one of the seven Sanctuary locations…” Paula pointed out.

“…and Pokey was talking about draining EagleLand’s power before bringing Giygas back,” Jeff said.

“But what does that mean to us?  He can’t harness the power of the earth that way, can he?  He doesn’t have a sound stone or anything!” Poo exclaimed.  The group looked at the ground, amazed.  Had Pokey found a way to destroy EagleLand once and for all?

As soon as the five friends landed in Tausig, Poo ran to the head hut and embraced Duvet.  Duvet obviously ruled over the tribe with an iron fist.  “Poo!  It’s so good to see you!  What brings you here after so long?” Duvet cried out.

“Well, we need some help with training.  We have to find and destroy Pokey before he can visit all of the seven Sanctuaries.”

Duvet closed his eyes.  “Ah, my friend, but he has already been to four of them.  Only three remain in constant flow with the earth below it.”

Poo turned to his friend to explain.  “Duvet has become one with the planet after years of training.  Although he is highly skilled in many forms of martial arts, he also knows how to control the elements at will, giving him a PSI like ability.”

“You five are here…  Where is the sixth?” Duvet asked, opening his eyes.

“Jeff?  He’s staying back, helping us with research and whatnot,” Ness answered.

“No, there is someone else who should be traveling with you.  You need a sixth warrior to help in the defeat of Giygas!”  Duvet was silent for a moment.  “After the training, we shall head to Giant Step, in Onett.  Surely he could not have drained it’s power by then!  I am going to join you in your quest.”

“Thank you, Duvet!  Surely you will be of great help!” Poo said.  Duvet clapped his hands.

            “The training will begin!”

The training that followed was intense.  All of the fighters seemed to learn many new talents and abilities.  The most improved, however, were Lucky and Lorien.  The two worked hard, and soon made up for their lack of PSI.

“Lorien,” Duvet asked late the next night.  “You say you don’t know PSI, yet your soul seems to be strengthened with some kind of power…”

“Well, the people in my village often fought as a group.  When they were all together, they could use some powerful magic.”

“Perfect!  You must learn how to hone that power!”

“But I don’t know if I was even born with the ability to!”

“I believe you were.  Think of your village.  Think of everyone you’ve ever known.  Concentrate hard.”  Lorien closed his eyes and concentrated on his home.  He could see the buildings, bustling with life, as they were before Pokey had destroyed everything.  Lorien’s rage came up through his bodies, burning in his mind.

Flames licked from his outstretched hands.  A green light began to glow from within Lorien’s chest, and engulfed his entire body.  The blazing fire shot straight into the sky, showering the world around him.  When the spectacle finally stopped, Lorien opened his eyes, and was fully healed.  The land around him was scorched.  Duvet clapped.

“Beautiful!  You healed yourself and attacked your enemies!  Now, if there was some way to use it in a powerful, concentrated attack…”

***

The time had come.  A sudden psychic message from Jeff to Paula has announced Pokey’s arrival at Lilliput Steps.  The group had little time to return to Onett.  Gathering their goods, Duvet talked to Lorien about the upcoming trip.

“Lorien, you and I aren’t much different.  We don’t have PSI, but we have made up for it.  I believe there are some much more incredible skills hiding in your heart.  You just need to get rid of the fear that is keeping you from using them.”

“Thank you, Duvet.”  The two friends followed after Lucky, Ness, Jeff, and Poo.  The sun was just rising.  Behind them the moon was slowly dipping behind the horizon.  “We have to stop Pokey before he can destroy us all…”
