RESURRECTION E –By James

-Ending Two
E is for Extraterrestrial

“Alright…lets do it,” said Nyne as she turned to Peter.

“Are you sure?” asked Yumi.

“Yep,” she replied. “I know you two can take care of yourselves…but I’d feel personally responsible if something happened to you. Yumi, with what you’ve just been through, I think it’d be best if you sat this out anyway.”

“Well then,” said Peter rather abruptly, “…I guess we’d better get it over with.” He handed Nyne her miniature computer. “Sorry for reading this,” he said, then moved back towards the Phase Distorter.

Nyne looked at him feeling a little guilty as he passed.

“You two be careful,” said Rich, “Yumi and I will be waiting.”

“Kay-O!” shouted a Mr. Saturn as he opened the door.

Nyne paused…then followed Peter into the machine. He had taken the back seat.

“Alright…” she said as the door closed and she sat down, “I think I can figure this out.”

“…Well, I’m always being led on,” said Peter in the back.

Nyne stopped for a moment, then continued getting the machine started.

About a minute later, the Phase Distorter version 4 hummed, and disappeared before the eyes of everyone in Saturn Valley.

It reappeared in a thick white mist.

Nyne raised her eyebrows a bit, “…Well…this is it.”

Peter said nothing.

“……”

“…..”

“…I’m sorry for not telling you…you know everything,” she whispered, “…about us.” A tear rolled down her cheek.

“…..”

“…Peter?” she said. “Is there anything you’d like to ask me?”

“…No,” said Peter sounding rather light hearted.

“…I missed you so much,” Nyne sniffed a bit. “Ever since...I heard that you were alive…and…I just jumped at the opportunity to come down here and look after you. I had to see you again…I had to make sure you’d be okay.”

Peter wasn’t sure what to say.

“…This is really difficult for me,” she said. “You and I are the same age Peter.”

“… …”

“Before I met you…back on our home world…I always thought that someday I’d be happy with someone...but…you just completely blew me away,” she said. “I’d never been quite as happy as I was when we spent time together.”

Peter began to feel a bit different.

“They told me not to tell you about any of that. They told me just to concentrate on getting you back…and then I could…” she stopped. “I’m sorry. I should have told you that we…had known each other right after I found you. I’ve been makin’ a lot of mistakes lately Peter. So now…we just need to focus on getting this done…and then I’ll get us home. There you can get whatever treatment you may need.”

Peter spoke, “We’d better find him.”

“…Yes,” said Nyne as she wiped under her eyes a little.

She began adjusting the controls.

“…Nyne,” said Peter quietly.

“Yes Peter,” she swung around.

“…There’s a hole back here.”

“…Oh…” she said.

“This cave must be where the battle’s going to take place,” he continued. “That means Kurtus is probably somewhere nearby.”

“Yeah,” she whispered, “now where exactly?”

“…Can you open the door?”

“…Sure,” she said.

The two stepped out. The temperature outside wasn’t much different.

Nyne kept staring upward. “I think there might be something up there. It’s too good a hiding spot to pass up. Let’s investigate.”

The two stepped back in.

“Okay…this should get us up there.”

After a few short moments, the ship emerged from the mist…and was confronted by Kurtus.

“I knew it,” said Nyne, “I…”

Suddenly Kurtus pointed his long weapon at the Phase Distorter…

“Nnnnng!” said Nyne at the controls.

Kurtus fired an incredible blast that shot far across the sky, barely missing it’s target.

Peter’s eyes came to his enemy’s from inside the ship.

Nyne swung the Phase Distorter around and landed on top of the cave.

As Kurtus was recharging the weapon, Nyne and Peter exited the Phase Distorter and ran into the mist.

Suddenly, Kurtus faded away in silence.

All three were cloaked by the fog.

Nyne inched forward, ready to launch a signature and finish the fight quickly. Suddenly, she saw a figure in the distance.

“….”

The figure kept advancing.

“…Peter?” whispered Nyne.

Suddenly, Nyne saw another figure from the side.

Nyne launched a signature immediately…at the first person she had seen.
The attack connected and the figure stopped…before running forth and revealing himself to be a nervous looking Peter.

“Oh…oh no!” yelled Nyne as she ran forward and grabbed the boy’s neck.
In just a second, the signature dropped from Peter’s body as Nyne pulled him away.

The explosion was serious enough to bring them down as they ran.

Just then, Nyne turned and saw Kurtus with his weapon.

Peter summoned his shield and quickly crawled in front of Nyne.

Kurtus however, aimed for their Phase Distorter, and fired.

“No!” yelled Nyne angrily.

The shot partially connected and the armored machine was damaged.

“If it’s destroyed,” thought Nyne, “…we’ll have to take his…”

Peter stood up, and turned to Kurtus.

Kurtus again vanished.

Nyne got up, “He’s still here somewhere,” she said. “…His power isn’t Psi, neither was Melva’s. I noticed that when I tried to use my magnet on Melva earlier.”

“…What do you mean?” asked Peter. “What are they then?”

“Well it’s quite possible…that they’re direct descendants of Giygas—the one they’re trying to resurrect,” said Nyne. “It’s said he didn’t have any Psi either.”

“Very clever,” said Kurtus suddenly as he appeared in the distance and fired again.

Nyne dodged and the beam hit Peter’s green shield, sending him to the ground. The shield that protected Peter crackled and fizzled out, due to the power of the beam it had withstood.

After Nyne was sure he was okay, she ran into the mist to try to catch up to Kurtus.

Kurtus faded out again.

“How long you going to keep this up?” Nyne called out. “You can’t win Kurtus. You obviously know that because you keep running. What’s happening here today is destiny. It was predicted. You might as well take your sorry butt back to the future.”

There was still no response.

Peter slowly stood up, almost amazed he was alive after that last blast. He summoned another shield and searched for Nyne, hoping to protect her with one as well. He could hear her yelling at Kurtus somewhere in the mist.

It had been another few minutes now.

“…Kurtus?” said Nyne.

There was silence.

“…Face me!” she said.

Just then, Kurtus sprung up again, preparing to fire at the girl.

And immediately, Nyne launched a signature at the man’s leg.

Kurtus paused, stunned by the impact. Both aliens waited for it to explode.

“AAHHHH!”

Peter heard Kurtus scream and started running.

“I’m going to make sure you get even worse than Melva.” said Nyne with her arms folded as she watched him fall to one knee. “Try to remember you’ve brought it on yourself.”

Kurtus breathed hard, then seemingly noticed something.

This got Nyne’s attention, but she didn’t turn from him. Just as she prepared to finish him off, Kurtus suddenly raised the weapon and fired it off the edge to the side.

Nyne looked confused and a bit angry as the beam sped downwards…and then she figured out what he was doing.

“NO!” she yelled as she jumped off the edge after the beam.

“Nyne!” yelled Peter as he saw her fall.

Although she couldn’t help but notice his concern for a moment, Nyne concentrated on the task before her, and teleported in mid air.
She arrived a second or two later, just before the beam could hit it’s target…and took the shot herself.

“No…no!” yelled Peter as he jumped off the top of the cave…and landed on the ground where they had arrived.

After recovering, Peter ran down the desolate white road and didn’t stop until he finally reached Nyne.

Kurtus was slowed down by his leg injury as he approached his Phase Distorter.

“Nyne!” said a confused Peter as he held the girl. Although he could touch her with it on, he had removed his shield. “Speak to me, please.”

There was no response as she twitched.

“Please…” said Peter.

“…Peter,” she said quietly.

“Why? Why did you do that?” he asked.

“You…see that sphere there?” she pointed to the silver one floating at their side.

“What…?” he asked.

“That’s a…transportation device. The heroes…need them to make it here. If he…if he had destroyed it…”

“I…understand,” said Peter.

Kurtus boarded the Phase Distorter.

“Nyne,” said Peter, “…don’t leave me again.”

“I…I think that’s my line,” she smiled weakly.

Peter gently let her go, stood up…and turned around.
“Kurtus,” he thought, “all of this is you people’s doing.” He balled his fists. “…And it’s going to end…right now.”

As the door to the Phase Distorter began closing, Peter concentrated…and within seconds, a very large burst of shiny white energy, resembling a shooting star, shot forth from his head and flew through the sky.

Nyne opened her eyes and watched the energy.

The shot kept flying, until it was finally interrupted by the piece of matter holding Kurtus.

The Phase Distorter exploded, completely destroyed.

Peter sighed…and turned back to Nyne.
“Please…stay with me,” he said. “…I meant what I said in the hotel.”

Nyne laughed a bit, “…Hold on to me Peter,” she said.

Peter took her in his arms as though he were giving her a hug. Nyne wrapped her arms around the back of the boy’s neck. Suddenly, a green aura surrounded them, levitating both teenagers as their hold became a true hug.
Nyne closed her eyes, while Peter’s gradually relaxed.
After nearly a minute, the healing was complete, and both landed gently.

“…Thank you Peter,” she said softly while he still held her.

After he let go, Peter looked the girl over. Except for the damage done to her clothing, she looked perfectly fine.

Within moments, they had teleported to the location of the damaged Phase Distorter 4. “…Even though I had decided not to, we could still try to destroy the other one—that exists in this period BEFORE the defeat of Giygas,” said Nyne. “That would ensure that this plan of Alpha’s never took place…but that might also make it so that they never took you…and whether I want to admit it or not, that’s probably the real reason I’d be doing it.”

Peter stared at the girl.

“I can’t go changing things for my own personal reasons…and besides…that could also make it so that Yumi and Rich never meet,” said Nyne. “There’ve been no casualties on Earth,” she smiled “…I think things will be just fine the way they’ve ended up.”

They boarded the damaged machine, and discovered it still worked. “Seems this is the way…things were supposed to be,” said Nyne.

She set it to return them to the future, and they soon reunited with their comrades in Saturn Valley.

“…Wow,” said Rich as he grinned and shook his head. “Sounds like you had quite a trip.”

“Oh yes,” nodded Yumi.

Peter smiled a bit.

“So…are you two really leaving?” asked Rich.

“Yeah we’ve…got to,” said Nyne as she looked at Peter,

“Yeah…you’ve got to go home,” said Yumi with a slight smile.

“Oh come on now,” said Nyne, “I know things will work out for the two of you. Don’t rule out going back to Fourside. There are people there who care about you…and you’ve got to let them know what’s going on.”

“Yeah…we know,” said Rich.

“…Come on,” smiled Nyne as she got up. “Bye-bye Mr. Saturns!” she called out. “Thank you!”

“Bye-bye!” could be heard all across the valley.

Seconds later, Nyne—having revitalized in the Phase Distorter—teleported the four of them just outside the Onett hospital.

“Why are we…oh yeah, the ship,” said Yumi.

“You really left Alpha’s ship…I mean Alpha’s old ship…in the water there?” asked Rich.

“Mmm hmm,” replied Nyne, “fit perfectly.”
“Just wait here a moment please,” she said before teleporting away.

Moments later, she returned in the small ship she had used to come to Earth, landed, and exited.

“Hey!” called someone from the distance.

Everyone turned.

“Aren’t you the girl who fought against those aliens earlier?” he asked Yumi. “You were the one who defended the town right?”

“Well yeah,” said Yumi, “but I had help from her too,” she said as Nyne approached from the distance.

“Listen, what you did was very brave. The Mayor’s been trying to find you both ‘cause he’s got a reward,” said the man.

“…A reward?” asked Yumi.

“Yep, from the city. It’s a house,” he smiled.

“…A house? A HOUSE?!” said Yumi.

“Stop by City Hall alright? I’ll see ‘ya.” He ran off.

“Well, well,” said Nyne, “didn’t I tell ‘ya?”

“RICH!” said Yumi. “Do you realize what this means?! We’ve got our new home! OUR home,” she smiled and gave him a hug.

Rich chuckled a bit and hugged her back.

“Hey, let me get some” said Nyne as she wrapped her arms around them.

Peter smiled as he watched them.

Afterwards, Nyne soon boarded the large ship, and used its’ beam to hoist up her pod—placing it near the one Peter had come in, which had been retrieved by Alpha earlier.

Rich approached Peter and extended his hand.

Peter shook it and spoke, “Hope you make a better driver than pilot,” he smiled.

Rich laughed, “There’s hope for you yet.”

“Take care of yourself,” Peter said to Yumi while shaking her hand.

“You too,” she smiled, “and take care of Nyne.”

“I will,” Peter nodded.

Peter stepped under the invisible ship, and soon felt its’ beam levitating him gently. After he was inside, the door closed, and he sat beside Nyne at the controls. The two looked down and watched their friends heading to City Hall. And then the visitors Peter and Nyne swooshed off towards home.

“…Don’t worry about them. They’ll be okay,” said Nyne.

“I know,” said Peter.

Nyne looked at him again and smiled.

When they arrived home, Nyne was honored for having recovered Peter, and for likely helping stop Alpha’s plans once and for all. Her report was very believable, given the appearance of her clothing and Peter’s distress call. Due to these honors, her recent defiance was excused.

Peter received medical attention—and was told his memory would likely return in time. He was also given a non-combat position in the meantime.

Nearly a month later—Peter was exiting the academy building, when he heard something that slowed him down. A soft, beautiful melody lured him into the room where it was being played. He couldn’t see who was behind the piano-like instrument, so he kept walking. After approaching a little closer, he saw Nyne’s face.
She continued playing, and Peter listened in silence. Soon she completed the tune. A few seconds later, she slowly looked up at him.

“…Do you recognize this?” she raised her eyebrows and smiled.

“I…I think so,” he said.

“…You used to like playing it,” she said as she stood up. “This,” she walked around, “…and many others,” she said standing before him.

“…Oh,” said Peter, shyly looking around as the girl stared at him. “…Well I’m…I’m sure I’ll remember some of them when I get my memory back. I’ll probably remember…lots of things,” he chuckled, facing her.

Nyne stood before him, and slowly smiled.
“Yes I’m sure you will,” she said rubbing some of the thin hair on his chin as she walked by.

Nyne exited the room.

Peter stood still for awhile, as a touch of sunlight shone in through the long, large window in the distance.

Then, he moved over to the bench, sat his bag down…and began practicing some music.

A few minutes later, he stumbled across another tune that seemed familiar. And after a few more tries, he actually played a good deal of it with near perfection.

Feeling a little proud, Peter paused for a minute when it was done…and began laughing to himself softly.

Just outside the room, a nicely dressed girl stops leaning against the wall…and walks off with a smile. Later on she sits down and files her last report of the month.

“Dear Journal,
…Today is the day I got Peter back.”
