Cruel Melee Guide

By Lunar

Cruel Melee: quite possibly the most difficult challenge in Super Smash Bros. Melee. You against five computers that fly like mountains, and a one hit (two, if you're lucky) life span. However, if you know the secret, insanely high scores of 10+ KO's are within your grasp. And better yet, that secret lies within everyone's favorite red-hatted hero, Ness. Here's the scoop...

1) Gain A Mastery Of Pk Thunder
Before you start, you should be able to launch Ness at any angle, but focus on firing Ness in a horizontal line. To do this, turn the PK Thunder sharply as soon as it appears, and then aim for Ness's neck instead of his back (which would send him upwards).

2) Beginning
At the beginning of Cruel Melee, immediately run to the side and jump just off the stage(Don't kill yourself!).

3) Setting It Up
(While still off to the side) Double jump in mid air to give time for all of the computers to gather behind you. You'll want to have them standing together on the lowest level. Also, try to get as close as you can without them being able to hit you.

4) Contact
After slowly double jumping, fall until you are level with the computers, then use PK Thunder to shoot Ness in a straight, horizontal line. If done correctly, you should send all five computers flying, and land safely.

5) Do It Again
While the computers are still in the air from the hit, quickly run off of the side again, and repeat (It doesn't have to be the same side; pick the one with the least computers).

As far as I know, PK Thunder is the only move in the game that renders your character invincible, which makes this method work. It takes time to master, but it is possible; just keep at it.
