EarthBound Zero Name Jokes

INTRODUCTION

Chances are, when you first see the title of this file, you'll be 
scratching your head. So, let me clarify; this file is an information 
resource for the name jokes and puns in EB0. An odd idea indeed, but it's one 
of the few things left to cover. Let's start, shall we?

TOWNS

1. PODUNK
"Podunk" basically means "small unimportant town".

2. MAGICANT
Also very obvious. "Magic" is incorporated into the title.

3. MERRYSVILLE
"Merry" means happy, "Ville" is usually used for towns. Basically Happy 
Town. Obvious again.

4. TWINKLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
"Twinkle" is meant to be as in the glint of a star. This is pretty neat, because in
EarthBound, the closest equivalent would be PoleSTAR in Twoson.

5. SPOOKANE
"Spook" as in scary, or to scare away.

6. YOUNGTOWN
Since all the kids' parents have been taken away here, it is called 
"Youngtown" because everyone in it is young.

7. ELLAY
This is one of the harder ones to get. Say it out loud a few 
times...Yeah, that's right! It sounds like "L.A." or Los Angeles! Cool, huh?

8. MT. ITOI
Now this is cool. The Mother series was created essentially by a man 
named Itoi, so they decided to call the final level of the game "Mt. 
Itoi" as a sort of inside joke.

ENEMIES

1. RAEB YDDET
"Raeb Yddet" is "Teddy Bear" spelled backwards.

2. SKY YDDET
I don't believe there is a joke to this one, at least not one similar 
to that of Raeb Yddet. When spelled backwards, it says "Teddy Yks" which 
doesn't make any sense.
<Amz> It's just a flying Yddet, ergo "Sky."

3. GROUCHO
<Amz> Referrence to Groucho Marx, famous comedic entertainer.

4. DR. DISTORTO
Obviously a joke off of "Distort". Basically "Dr. Distort".

5. GABILIN
If you say it out loud, it sounds a lot like "Goblin," so I'm going 
with that.

6. R7037
It's a robot, so it probably just has the usual cliche robot name, with 
the random letters and numbers.

7. 150
This enemy has 150 HP, so they decided to call it 150, I guess.

8. ROCKOYLE
A rock gargoyle. Fuse the two names and you get Rockoyle.

9. R7038
The same deal with R7037, except stronger (it is unbeatable) so they 
decided to up the numbers a bit. (Replacing the last 7 with an 8)

10. TITANEES
A weaker form of Titanian. Usually, weaker or less important things 
have "ee" at the end. (Trainee, for example)

11. TITANIAN
A joke off of "Titan".

12. Giegue
Pronounced "Gyeeg" or "Geeg". I find this most interesting, since in 
Japan, EarthBound is called "Mother 2: Geeg's Counterattack" which shows 
some ties to EB0.

ENDING

That's it. It was short indeed, but many things in EB0 are a bit too 
straight-forward to need a guide to accompany it. However, I found some 
points most interesting, some of which you may have never noticed, so I
